The story of our name

We have changed our name from Indigenous Community Volunteers to Community First Development.

Our new name, Community First Development, reflects what we do, rather than who we are.

We have long recognised the need for our name to better reflect the unique way we work with community - to put Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities first – their dreams, their needs, their quest to advance their culture and knowledge, whilst creating positive change and brighter futures for their communities.

The change of name was made only after lengthy consultation with First Nations people, communities, our supporters and volunteers.

Our artwork

Our story is captured in a painting especially created to celebrate our first 20 years of working with community. It is a story of community, connection and collaborations and features the rich vibrant colours and diversity of land, sea and sky.

For us, the painting symbolises communities leading the way to positive change through collaboration with each other, our people, our supporters and volunteers.  It also provided the inspiration for the Community First Development logo and visual identity, created by Kimiah Alberts, Gungalu, Yiman, Koinjmal and South Sea Islander woman from Queensland.
